Can Science Prove God’s Existence?

“One in 200 stars has habitable Earth-like planets surrounding it – in the galaxy, half a billion stars have Earth-like planets going around them – that’s huge, half a billion. So when we look at the night sky, it makes sense that someone is looking back at us.”           – Michio Kaku theoretical physicist and professor
Science and faith. Everyone sees them as two separate subjects. One is based on theories and  logic while the other is based on belief and Intelligent Design. For a long time, it has been the scientist and those who believe in science verses those who believe in God. Why do you think that is? Is there room to believe in both?

Higgs Field

“The Higgs field is an energy field that is thought to exist everywhere in the universe. The field is accompanied by a fundamental particle called the Higgs boson, which the field uses to continuously interact with other particles. As particles pass through the field they are “given” mass, much as an object passing through treacle (or molasses) will become slower because they now cannot travel at the speed of light because they have mass.

Mass itself is not generated by the Higgs field: the creation of matter or energy would conflict with the laws of conservation. However, mass is “given” to particles from the Higgs field, via the higgs bosons which contains the relative mass in the form of energy. Once the field has endowed a formerly massless particle the particle slows down because it has become heavier.

If the Higgs field did not exist, particles would not have the mass required to attract one another, and would float around freely at light speed. Also gravity would not exist because mass would not be there to attract other mass.”  -Simple English Wikipedia

Higgs Boson

The Higgs boson (or Higgs particle) is a particle in the Standard Model of physics. In the 1960s Peter Higgs was the first person to express the idea. On 14 March 2013, scientists at CERN tentatively confirm that they have found the particle.

It is one of the 17 particles in the Standard Model. The Higgs particle is a boson. Bosons are thought to be particles which are responsible for all physical forces. Other known bosons are the photon, the W and Z bosons, and the gluon. Scientists do not yet know how to combine gravity with the Standard Model. It is the quantum excitation of the Higgs field[5][6]—a fundamental field of crucial importance to particle physics theory.[6] Unlike other known fields such as the electromagnetic field, the higgs field takes a non-zero constant value almost everywhere. The question of the Higgs field’s existence has been the last unverified part of the Standard Model of particle physics and, according to some, “the central problem in particle physics”.

This new discovery was made July 4th 2012. Basically, the field and the “God Particle” is holding everything together. Without these, nothing would exist. It gives the entire universe its mass. This gives a whole new outlook to both science and faith. We know what it is and what it does but one things we don’t know: What made the one thing that holds all matter together? Or should we as: Who?

Science are stumped but have some theories with there being multiverses one of them  while many believers are still science deniers and believe not to question how things were made that ‘God made everything” is all you should need to know. I am a person of faith but I am also a person who likes to explore ideas about how everything works. I believe the Higgs Field and the Higgs Boson are proof of his design and intelligence. Science tells me what everything is and how it works and my faith tells me who created it and who is holding it all together. I also believe that some parts of evolution explains how our world was create by God because I really doubt people of Biblical times would understand matter, atoms, or quarks. I believe it was easier to say what was told in Genesis. It also says in the bible that one day to God is ten thousand years.

“But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”  2 Peter 3:8

What if it was more than ten thousand years? What if it is like a million years or even a billion years? People back then wouldn’t be able to grasp the concept of million or billion. Science is just showing us how he did it.

“Many have the feeling that somehow intelligence must have been involved in the laws of the universe.”  -Charles Townes 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics

So I leave this up to you. Can science and the belief of God support each other or will they forever be foes that will keep battling each other at the hands of the human race? I hope one day everyone will find common ground.

Well, Kaku got just about everything wrong. When thinking of life and habitable planets, we talk of carbon-based lifeforms. It is inconceivable just how many other lifeforms may exist. Also, he never mentioned the billions of galaxies that we know about. What about what we don’t know about? And all that is just in the one universe we know about. And people still think one God instantly created all that, and that same God cares about every single thing every single human is doing all the time? I guess it’s not inconceivable…

I think the Genesis story has something far more important to say about human kind . It is the declaration of morals which comes from self awareness and self judgement. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil , and once tasted man becomes more than animal. We are at war with ourselves , the rule of survival of the fittest clashes with do unto others as you would be done by. The universe is amoral but we are moral beings. It could be that when intelligence reaches a certain level self awareness appears and this may have happened wherever intelligent life has evolved. Professor Brian Cox believes our own galaxy is unlikely to harbour any intelligent life and I think he is correct. We do not know why intelligence evolved but we have recently discovered there were several humanoid species that interbred and Neanderthal DNA is part of our make up.
